History of the Blue Water Rest Home and the West Huron Care Centre

Discover the history of our Long-Term Care home, Blue Water Rest Home, and the West Huron Care Centre community hub.

Blue Water Rest Home & West Huron Care Centre

Blue Water Rest Home (BWRH) was founded in 1965 as a charitable, not-for-profit Home for the Aged. Located in Zurich, in the southwest portion of Huron County, the Home provides high quality long-term care and support.

Situated just a few miles from the shores of Lake Huron and with views across the local fields and countryside, Blue Water Rest Home has become popular for seniors looking for a friendly care home in a rural setting.

Long-term care renewal pilot

In 2008, our LTC (long term care) home was selected as the provincial pilot project for future long-term care renewal across Ontario. We are so proud that we are now one of the most modern care homes in the region. Our single level design allows natural light to flood in, whilst making the most of the sweeping views.

As a result of the redevelopment, we also created a hub of services to better serve the community, known as the West Huron Care Centre (WHCC).  This initiative provides a range of community outreach services for the local community, with shared use of spaces and facilities. While our core business remains long-term care, we can now offer a range of programs for the local population, who in turn enjoy visiting the WHCC.

As a result, visitors of WHCC are always impressed by the amount of activity onsite, from intergenerational programming between our seniors and the children at the daycare, to seniors independent living interacting with residents of long-term care.
